Government Denies Extension of FAME-II Subsidies Beyond March 31

In India, there’s a program called FAME-II that helps people buy electric vehicles (EVs).

EVs are cars, bikes, and other vehicles that run on electricity instead of gasoline.

FAME-II stands for Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles.

Recently, there was news that FAME-II might get extended for four months. This got people excited because it meant more time to get subsidies for buying EVs.

Subsidies are like discounts given by the government to make things cheaper.

However, the government said this news wasn’t true. They clarified that FAME-II will end on March 31, 2024, as planned. So, no extra time for subsidies.

The government has set aside Rs 11,500 crore for FAME-II. That’s a lot of money!
